The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States

Did You Know That:

  1. The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States is one sentence with 3 commas and 2 semicolons.
  2. Five distinct privileges are contained in that one sentence (to be discussed later).
  3. The First Amendment is part of the ‘Bill of Rights’ or the First 10 Amendments to the Constitution.
  4. The Constitution was proposed by Congress on September 17, 1787, and effective March 4, 1789.
  5. On September 25, 1789, the Congress sent the first 10 Amendments (plus 2 that were not approved) to the respective State legislatures for ratification.
  6. The ‘Bill of Rights’, the first 10 Amendments, were ratified on December 15, 1791, by 3/4 of the States.
